Rick, Tim and I just completed the delivery of the eighth and final Freedom to Lead training module to our South Asian partners during three days in Ambala, India. This final module was entitled “Spiritual Leadership” and it challenged leaders to recognize various streams (traditions) of Christian ministry expression, identify the strengths and potential weaknesses of each one, identify the primary streams of their own experience and finally stretch themselves to embrace the strengths of streams that have previously been outside of their own experience.

After many days of travel and adjustments to schedules we finally began our first song developement session at 9:40am! I introduced them to the whole concept of creating songs to teach Christ-centered leadership. These songs will repeat the stories from the curriculum. The songs will also recreate those “a-haa” moments that are so critical in the learning process.

Doug and Mingma near a trail stop north of Lukla, Nepal

Wow. I don’t know how to begin to describe the beauty of this place – I’ve never experienced anything like it. Amazing. The majesty of the mountains; the simplicity of the people; the cleanliness of the villages, the ruggedness of the trails. We flew out of Kathmandu just after sunrise. Again the beauty is indescribable. Flight was fairly smooth until we flew through a mountain pass about 10 min from Lukla – then it was like a wild roller coaster – I’m surprised no one on the flight lost their breakfast!

Welcome to Doug and Mary Lu’s next big adventure! We are excited to join the team of Freedom to Lead, International to focus on the development of Christian leaders in some of the most under-resourced areas of the globe.

Why leaders?

You see, leaders – good ones and bad ones – make a difference in everyone’s life. Scripture’s great commission best occurs when competent, Christ-centered leaders unleash the potential of the Gospel among people within their local communities. Freedom to Lead cultivates this kind of Christ-centered leader.
